Worth knowing about track construction screws and nails

Various manufacturers offer model railway tracks in different gauges and variants.
1. Tracks without bedding
2. Tracks with bedding
Bedding means the track bed.

When laying tracks, whether with or without bedding, it is essential to ensure that the connections between the individual pieces of track are neat. An open rail joint and/or an ill-fitting rail splice can cause a power interruption.

When laying the tracks directly on the layout, i.e. without bedding, it is advisable to use shorter screws or nails.
Our recommendation:

Art. Nr.: 08058Gleisbauschraube 1,3 x 10 mm Kreuzschlitz
Art. Nr.: 08022Gleisnägel Spur Z
Art. Nr.: 08023Gleisnägel Spur N/H0e, TT/H0m
Art. Nr.: 08020Gleisnägel Spur H0
Advantages:
Saving of the high ballast bed,
Quick and easy laying without having to adjust an underlay.
Disadvantages:
no noise insulation,
not a scale ballast bed.

Longer screws or nails should be used when laying the tracks with finished bedding.
Our recommendation:
Art. Nr.: 08058
Art. Nr.: 08057Gleisbauschraube 1,4 x 15 mm Kreuzschlitz
Art. Nr.: 08052Gleisbauschraube 1,4 x 15 mm Schlitz
Art. Nr.: 08059Gleisbauschraube 2,0 x 15 mm Kreuzschlitz
Art. Nr.: 08024Gleisnägel Spur N/H0e, TT/H0m extra lang
Art. Nr.: 08021Gleisnägel Spur H0 extra lang
Advantages:
Quick and easy laying including gravel bed,
Some track systems have a click system.
Disadvantages:
Visible joints at the joints,
little noise insulation.

When laying the tracks without bedding, under which a base (track bed) made of cork, for example, is installed, longer screws or nails should also be used.

Our recommendation:
Art. Nr.: 08058Gleisbauschraube 1,3 x 10 mm Kreuzschlitz
Art. Nr.: 08057Gleisbauschraube 1,4 x 15 mm Kreuzschlitz

Art. Nr.: 08021Gleisnägel Spur H0 extra lang
Advantages:
no joints,
to scale,
noise reduced,
banked track curves are easier to display,
Color of the gravel freely selectable,
results in a prototypical look of the ballast bed.
Disadvantages:
Previously mark the center line for finished bedding.
In the case of panels (cork), the underlay must be trimmed after the track has been laid,
very time consuming.
